F) qualcos'altro dal tuo curriculum / could you please tell us a little bit about what do you do/have you done?: prima di studiare da illustratrice mi sono laureata in Scienze della Comunicazione, la mia tesi di fine triennio era un'analisi semiotica della comunicazione visiva di Björk. Alla fine di quel percorso però ho sentito la necessità di tornare alla mia passione fondamentale, così mi sono Iscritta all'Istituto Europeo di Design, finito lo IED ho vissuto qualche mese a Londra, al mio ritorno ho poi lavorato per Hamelin, l'associazione che organizza BilBOlBul il festival di fumetto internazionale che si tiene a Bologna, da lì sono nate amicizie e collaborazioni, come quella ormai ufficiale con Giulia Sagramola e Cristina Spanò con le quali mi occupo di Teiera. Al momento oltre a lavorare free lance tengo un corso di serigrafia rivolto ai terzi anni IED insieme ad Andrea Baldelli / Before studying illustration I graduated in Communication, my final essay was a semiotic analysis of Björk visual communication. Then I decided to go back to my fundamental passion, and start studying Illustration. As I finished my illustration course I moved to London, I lived there for some months and came back to Italy in December 2010. Then I started to collaborate with Hamelin, the association that organizes BBB, the International comic festival that takes place in Bologna in March. I'm also part of Teiera self publishing label, and I teach a screenprint class together with Andrea Baldelli.

R) cosa ti ispira attualmente? / what are a few things inspiring you at the moment?: il gusto grafico e il design est europeo degli anni '50/'60 / East European design from the '50s/'60s.
S) qual'è la principale difficoltà per un 'giovane creativo' oggi? / which is the main difficulty for a young creative today?: parlando della situazione italiana, noto che è difficile far capire che questo non è un gioco, un hobby, un esercizio di stile, ma è innanzitutto un lavoro che richiede tempo e professionalità. Credo che sia una questione di maleducazione di fondo, di non conoscenza. / Speaking about the Italian situation, it's difficult to make people understand that this is not a game, a hobby, a style exercise, but a job that takes time and professionality. I think it's a matter of lack of knowledge.

T) dimensione collettiva nell'arte e nella creatività: si, no, come? / what do you think about the collective dimension of art and creativity?: credo che il confronto sia fondamentale nella creatività, io stessa ho notato che certi progressi nel mio lavoro sono venuti dal contatto e confronto con realtà differenti. Mi piacerebbe avere la possibilità di condividere uno spazio con altre persone che lavorano in questo ambito, e penso che prima o poi lo farò. / Getting a feedback is extremely important when you work with creativity, me myself I noticed that the fact of experiencing different realities gave my the chance to develop my style. I would be happy to have the chance to share a collective space with other people who work in the same field, and I think I will do it sooner or later.

SF) Ciao ! Five words to describe your childhood? / Cinque parole per descrivere la tua infanzia?
HP) Love, freedom, awakening, fantasy, dreams.

SF) When did you start drawing what were your favourite subjects?/ Quali erano i tuoi soggetti preferiti quando hai iniziato a disegnare?
HP) I always draw. When I start naturally draw what have in my everyday life, the things around me but when the time pass become more interested in how to make talk the tool in my hand, the possibility of say something completely new.

SF) An important step for your self-improvement and artistic growth? / Un passo importante nella tua crescita artistica?
HP) The opportunity to travel and feel the works of some big artists in person.

HP) Affects directly on me and my work, I eat bad and good things of live in a capital city but at the end of the day depends on you having the ability to process that info and survive another day.

Vegetation is a constant source of wonder for me.
S) qual'è la principale difficoltà per un 'giovane creativo' oggi? / which is the main difficulty for a young creative today?: Non saprei, per me la difficoltà maggiore e quella di concentrarmi, di creare delle immagini affascinanti, limpidi, e coerenti, senza cadere nell’evidente o didascalico. Poi, sai, ci sono tanti giovani, avranno problemi diversi. / I wouldn’t know, personally I find the greatest difficulty is to concentrate, to create fascinating, clear and coherent images, without making something obvious or pedantic. But then, as you know, there are many young creative people around, I’m sure they have many different problems.

T) dimensione collettiva nell'arte e nella creatività: si, no, come? / what do you think about the collective dimension of art and creativity?: Ci deve essere, è necessario verificare gli esiti dei propri sforzi con i colleghi e con persone sconosciute, ma nell’arte, almeno nelle arti visive, credo che l’artista sia da solo con la propria opera e che questa debba partire da una elaborazione intensamente personale delle proprie esperienze vissute. / I find it to be important, it’s necessary to discuss your production by showing it to collegues and audiences, but in art, at least in the visual arts, I believe the artist is really alone with his own artwork, that it must result from an intensively personal elaboration of one’s experience.

To draw! I’m setting up a new studio and I can’t wait to spend my time drawing (I know it’s a boring response but it’s true).

X) cosa ti piacerebbe studiare da vecchio? / what do you like to study when you'll be old?: Non lo so… che senso ha studiare da vecchi? Da vecchio immagino che farò modellini di navi, oppure scriverò lettere ai giornali. / I don’t know… what’s the point of studying when you’re old? I envision myself building little model ships, or writing letters to newspapers.

Z) la parola "fludd" cosa ti fa venire in mente? / what the word "fludd" suggests you?: Mi ricorda un cartone animato che vidi da bambino e che ebbe poco successo, credo che durò solo un anno; si chiamava “The brothers flud”, mi pare che fossero due amebe che vivevano nel corpo di un essere umano. Ecco se penso a Fludd penso a delle amebe, oppure ad un prodotto per sbloccare i lavandini intasati. / It reminds me of a cartoon which I saw as a child, and which was taken off the air in very little time. I believe it lasted just a year; it was called “The brothers flud”, I think they were two amoebas which lived in a human body. So if I think of Fludd, what comes to mind are amoebas, or even a chemical product which helps unclog sinks.

Collective Painting

This is the winning graphic of the 95th exhibition of young artists of Bevilacqua la Masa - relevant artistic foundation in Venice. Caterina did it, StudioFludd chose it, Alberto experienced it during his graduation party last October. Academy of Fine Arts, painting and further dirty stuff. The price will be devoted to a trip in January :-)

The Country of the Blind

Venice, again. Following faint trails of alchemic, hermetic past. This floating city has an unbelievable golden church built by pirates during six centuries. It's a mixture of everything, it's a huge crux of the matter.

Fludd Interview / Focus On #1/ It's Raining Elephants

Girls just wanna have fun and give life to vivid works. We stumbled across these brilliant duo in the wide world of the web and from then we are quite elephant addicted. Signore e signori meet It's Raining Elephants alias Nina Wehrle + Evelyne Laube, Berlin based, from where the milk-chocolate, red-cross, esoteric-bank and great-graphic things are. +) In addition, a little Focus On a particular project - this time we choose the sophisticated illustrations they made for The Grosse Flut / The Great Flood. The book speak by itself, but we have to say that it gained a Special Mention at Ilustrarte (Portugal) and it's a finalist of the 4th Picture book awards (Korea). Well done!

0: Who are you?
N: Nina Wehrle, 27, illustrator, swiss accent, dracula tooth, elephant & mouse.
E: My name is Evelyne Laube. I work with Nina Wehrle together under the name "It's Raining Elephants" as an illustrator. I am interested in drawing as a permanent process of observing and interviewing. I work with the material that I have and that I am. I love to work with my hands and to play around and to see what comes out of it. With Nina it is very fun to work. Sometimes we work very systematically and sometimes we break all rules.

1: Five words to describe your childhood... ?

N: Where the wild things are.
E: Meadow, forest, farm, secret places.

2: When did you start drawing, what were your favourite subjects?
N: As children we always had plenty of paper in all imaginable sizes because my grandparents ran a printing workshop, so we drew a lot. My favorite subjects were me, myself and I.
E: I don't remember, it is very natural like talking or eating or breathing. But when it was raining, I sometimes didn't want to go out. So i stayed home and drew. I also loved to do other things with my hands, to tinker and to build huts. I didn't have a favorite subject, but i drew a lot of houses where you could open the door, the window, the garage, the stalldoor or unfold the roof and see what is inside.
I started to use not only one piece of paper but to tape paper together and build up a long number of houses, an entire universe. Subjects always changed.

3: An important step for your self-improvement and artistic growth?
N: In the high school I created a picture book together with a friend. From this moment on I got something like a pair of wings because I knew what I wanted to do.
E: Learning by doing. People I met at any point in my life, who are important to me.

4: How is the place where you live influencing your work?
N: There is an endless accumulation of stories on the streets of Berlin and a surprise around every corner. Since illustration actually is nothing else than collecting and retelling stories it's not a bad environment.
E: I can take a little walk and discover many things, a lot of stories are happening at the same time. It's poor but it has its beauty. It's better than watching a movie. In a rather chaotic place I need a little room where I can hide and be calm. This can be a studio or only a blank sheet of paper.

5: Which is the aspect of your profession that you dislike the most?
N: To try to fit the taste of a client
E: Permanent Sitting

6: Is there a project you're secretly rising since a long time?
N: Yes.
E: Yes.

7: You as an artist in three adjectives... ?
N: Obsessive, decisive, contradictory.
E: Questioning, doubting, sensitive.

SF: If you were living 100 years ago, which artistic movement or group would you have worked into?
N: The elephant movement.
E: 1911 was the early time of Modernism in Europe. In swiss the first group of modernists was built in 1911 by Walter Helbig, Oscar Lüthy and Hans Arp. Later People like Paul Klee joined the group.
I don't know if I would have joined them. I would be certainly influenced by other things then now and I don't know how I would form an opinion and try a life model. If possible in 1911 I would travel a lot, study many languages and learn to swim.

SF: what is for you the main difference between a commissioned painting and a commissioned illustration?
N: One is going to decorate a living room, the other a magazine.
E: The illustration has to communicate, the painting not if it doesn't want to.

SF: Three artists you would like to exhume and interview?
N: Hieronymus Bosch, Bruno Munari, Adolf Wölfli.
E: I would like to make a studio visit with Hieronymus Bosch, Katsushika Hokusai, Sibylla Merian.

SF: which is the most "artistically friendly" city you have visited?
N: Leipzig.

SF: Three irreplaceable visual art values that are useful for the human cohabitation?
N: Empathy, accuracy, profundity.

FOCUS ON: Die Grosse Flut / The Great Flood - 2011.

A. Name of the project / category:
Die Grosse Flut / The Great Flood (illustrated publication).

B. What's that? :
This publication attempts to reinterpret the narrative of Noah's Arc, one of the most published and illustrated stories. We were fascinated with the archaic force and absurdity of the Bible text (Genesis 6 -9), which the publisher has shown to us. A new interpretation of this text and an examination of the prevalent images and patterns greatly appealed to us.

C. How/when/why it came into the world:
We gave birth to it from May to July 2011. The rainy summer helped our imagination and facilitated it to focus on this archaic flood.

D. Grade of satisfaction:
9.5 of 10 points.

Archaic, apocalyptical, playful, empathetic, rich in detail.

A) nome / name: Anne Forest

B) nazionalità / where are you from?: My parents are both American but they moved to a city near Amsterdam, The Netherlands before I was born. I grew up there, and now live in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

C) età / how old are you?: I'm 28.

D) area d'azione (disegno, pittura, fotografia, animazione, ...) / your sphere of interests: Drawing and painting.

E) studi / studies: Drawing has I think always been my primary obsession, the first thing I couldn't stop doing. The first art academy I attended didn't know what to do with this. The medium combined with the fact that I was always drawing people probably wasn't “modern” enough for them. I was looking for guidance in making my transition to painting, since I always longed to be as fluent in that as I was in drawing. But at this academy you were lucky if you even had one teacher who either drew or painted. So I left before finishing, and found the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in the Hague, which still has an actual painting department. I've studied there for the past three years, and had my exam-exhibition just a couple of weeks ago. It's been a wonderful three years. I can't say enough good things about this school. I learned how to make painting my own. Now it's my new obsession.

F) qualcos'altro dal tuo curriculum / could you please tell us a little bit about what do you do/have you done?: I've always been fascinated by the darker, hidden sides of peoples characters (also my own), and how this manifests in their faces in particular. The first stage of my journey into this fascination started about 6 years ago with a series of warped self-portrait drawings. Many stages through drawing and painting have followed. Now, in the most recent stage I make large scale portraits of black figures for which the starting point is always a classical Renaissance or Baroque painting. The process is finding inspiration in an existing work, using it as the base for a new work, and my own style and story finding its way through this centuries old work to the canvas.

G) 3 maestri / 3 masters: David Lynch, Frances Bacon, Matthew Barney.

H) 1 città d'ispirazione / 1 inspiring city: The best time I had in a big city was probably when I was in London a few years ago and took a Jack the Ripper- walking tour. But I have to say, I feel more inspired by a rough country-side with castles and ruins. I went to Scotland when I was a little girl, and I'll never forget it.

I) dove il prossimo viaggio? / a place you'd love to visit soon: I always imagine that of all rough landscapes, Iceland has the roughest. I've always dreamed of going there.

M) un negozio che approvi / a shop you love: It's probably a very obvious answer, but I love going to any art-supplies shop or a bookstore with a good art-section. I just forget about time for hours in shops like that. And stand the most chance of spending way too much money.

N) 2 oggetti che ti piacciono / 2 objects you like: My external hard-drive that has hundreds of movies on it I haven't seen yet. I also love my external hard-drive that has hundreds of movies on it I have already seen. I am a major movie nerd+addict.

O) la tua colazione ideale / your ideal breakfast: If I never had to pay any mind to my health, I'd probably eat an English breakfast every day of the week. Sausage, beans, bacon, eggs, toast; the lot. I also remember warming up leftovers in the morning with my sister when we were younger. Chili con carne, pizza; Americans can eat weird things in the morning. It's in our DNA.

P) un bel posto nelle tue vicinanze / somewhere nice to go in your neighbourhood: I live very close to Utrechts old city center and what sets it apart from other Dutch cities is that the canals that run through it are lined with unique wharf-basement structures that create two-level streets along the canals. It's just so medieval and romantic. Lots of artists have their studio's down there. I hope I will too one day.

Q) cosa stai leggendo ultimamente? / last books you have read: I'm a big movie-watcher, and not a big reader. I do enjoy reading good books that have been made into good movies. I'm re-reading Brett Easton Ellis' “American Psycho” right now. Last year I read a lot of books about David Lynch while I was writing my thesis about his movies. I have lots of books though. Mainly art books and books with lots of film-stills, there to inspire me on a rainy day. Having lots of books around me makes me feel at home: I grew up in house that had no walls, only bookshelves filled with books.

R) cosa ti ispira attualmente? / what are a few things inspiring you at the moment?: Baroque and Renaissance portraits, photographs of empty malls or offices or elevators or subway-stations, Angelo Badalamenti music.

S) qual'è la principale difficoltà per un 'giovane creativo' oggi? / which is the main difficulty for a young creative today?: Well, Holland isn't the heaven on earth for artists as it used to be. Right-wing politicians like Geert Wilders are against the government spending as much money as it used to on the arts, and you can really feel the effects of that now. Art-funds are cutting back, some academies, galleries and other initiatives don't even know if they'll be here next year. It's so weird and sad to see stuff like this happen. I'm so worried we'll loose our uniqueness and turn into one of those run of the mill, bland countries that doesn't understand that their country needs the color and poetry that art can offer it.

T) dimensione collettiva nell'arte e nella creatività: si, no, come? / what do you think about the collective dimension of art and creativity?: I'm a bit of a workaholic and I tend to forget about the world around me when I'm in a flow and working for long stretches of time. Going to a museum or a gallery usually shakes me out of this. Suddenly I feel the contact between the artist and the public through the artwork. In the end, that's what a big part of my work is about: people can feel so cut-off and isolated when they're just sitting in a train or walking through a supermarket together. I know I sometimes do. Art and creativity break through those walls. Suddenly you can really show yourself and you can really be seen. I think that shared experience between you and the public is one the most important things art has to offer.

U) cosa stai cercando? / what are you looking for?: A studio space!

V) di che cosa non vedi l'ora? / what are you looking forward?: The Future! I have no idea what's coming my way and I can't wait to see!

W) progetti per il futuro (esagera!) / projects for the future (exaggerate!): I only know about the near future: there are bunch of galleries that want to show some works in group-shows, I'm going to try to get some funding, and there's a masters I'm quite interested in. So, if I'm accepted and if the government doesn't shut them down, I might be going to school again next year.

X) cosa ti piacerebbe studiare da vecchio? / what do you like to study when you'll be old?: I'll always be feeding off of art and movies and love and the way I experience life. Experiencing and investigating things like these with a purpose turns them into a study. I'll never be finished studying them.

Y) un buon proposito per la stagione 2011-12 / a good purpose for the 2011-12 season: Painting, painting, painting! (Network, network, network...) Exhibit, exhibit, exhibit!

Tra gli ingredienti, modellati e dipinti a mano, i classici della tradizione ma anche aggiunte punk. This is Caterina's graphic project for her personal identity and self-promotion as an illustrator.
She drew one-of-a-kind business cards and a correspondence set (personalized envelopes + stickers with her initials). The starting inspiration could be located in the mood of J.D. Salinger's short story "A Perfect Day for Bananafish". But who knows.

Questa è la collezione di magneti dipinti a mano presentati in occasione della piccola mostra collettiva Vicenza città bellissima, curata da Stefania Portinari nello Spazio Cogollo detto Casa del Palladio. Semplicemente oggetti estetici per rievocare le bellezze architettoniche della palladiana bianca Vicenza dopo la visita, che giocano sulla riduzione geometrica di sei tra i maggiori edifici della città: Teatro Olimpico, Basilica Palladiana, Palazzo Chiericati, Palazzo Barbaran da Porto, Villa Capra detta la Rotonda, Duomo. Buona gita! / This is the small magnetic collection we presented in the collective design exhibition Vicenza città bellissima - collecting designers' proposals for alternative souvenirs and memoriabilia dedicated to the beautiful white city of Palladio: Vicenza - UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994. SF: Five words to describe your childhood... ?

HK: Small town, family, play, self made, everyday life.

SF: When did you start drawing, what were your favourite subjects?
HK: I think I did draw all the things that came to my mind when I was small.

SF: An important step for your self-improvement and artistic growth?
HK: Maybe just small steps, but it was important for me to think about the things that are holding me back, to be more honest to myself and to find different kinds of beauty.

SF: How is the place where you live influencing your work?
HK: The rhythm of my working changes as the seasons and the amount of light changes (a lot around here).

SF: Which is the aspect of your profession that you dislike the most?
HK: The uncertainty and trying to make a living from this - maybe they are also some of the best parts.

SF: Is there a project you're secretly rising since a long time?
HK: There are some projects I've been hoping to be able to do..

SF: You as an artist in three adjectives... ?
HK: Playful, a bit coarse, open-minded (trying).

SF: If you were living 100 years ago, which artistic movement or group would you have worked into?
HK: I could say Bauhaus and textile department.

SF: what is for you the main difference between a commissioned painting and a commissioned illustration?
HK: I haven't really done commissioned paintings, but I don't see an essential difference between them.

SF: Three artists you would like to exhume and interview?
HK: Tove Jansson, Bruno Munari, Alexander Calder

SF: which is the most "artistically friendly" city you have visited?
HK: I think they are just cities people like to live in.

Two Summers as a metal worker in a gates engines factory, it wasn't actually the main factory, but just a small branch run by a Serbian family, good friends of mine; 4 years as a pizza pony in Pizza New, full time during summertime, only at weekends during the rest of the year. 2010 has been great, I spent 3 months in New York City assisting Mary Elle Mark, 4 in London (where I'm currently living) assisting Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin, and 2 weeks in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Now I'm working on my own and pay taxes.

SF: Five words to describe your childhood... ?

MZ: War, Sadness, Fear, Adventures, Discoveries.

SF: When did you start drawing, what were your favourite subjects?
MZ: As a child I would draw what was in hand, for me drawing meant the same to any other child. I just drew and painted anything and everything …

SF: An important step for your self-improvement and artistic growth?
MZ: Maybe the first time I went to Bologna’s Book Fair, I met there artists that gave me a new vision about illustration and art in general. The real possibility of growing and developing your artistic skills beyond the markets or the fashions of each moment.

SF: How is the place where you live influencing your work?
MZ: I'm living in Iran at the moment and it doesn't influence or inspire me at all, here is similar the hell actually, very closed!!! I need especially, peace of mind, tranquility, silence and to be alone, but I don't have silence and tranquility, unfortunately…

SF: Which is the aspect of your profession that you dislike the most?
MZ: When I have no ideas and all the tasks related to money… specially printing the bills after doing a work! And also, I don't like to draw something without goal in front of people who watch !!!

SF: Is there a project you're secretly rising since a long time?
MZ: Yes indeed!! but I’m afraid it is a secret... !

SF: You as an artist in three adjectives... ?
MZ: Eclecticism, spontaneity, a kind of poetry (much better when “others” tell you!!)

SF: If you were living 100 years ago, which artistic movement or group would you have worked into?
MZ: No, really too hard to choose! Maybe the Bauhaus in order to be a Paul Klee's student... ?

SF: what is for you the main difference between a commissioned painting and a commissioned illustration?
MZ: I see no difference. I mean, I don’t see the differences that people usually point out. In one case or another, the order translates into a programme. And work answers to a programme. What really matters is to take on the job with dynamism and the requested demand. This is only the starting point. According to the unconscious and the operative capabilities of the author, the work can lead to an outcome that does not commit the author’s “freedom”, even if this meant getting a job done.

SF: Three artists you would like to exhume and interview?
MZ: Only three?! Jean Dubuffet, Andy Warhol, Jean Michel Basquiat…

SF: which is the most "artistically friendly" city you have visited?
MZ: I'm still searching... but so far probably Paris.

SF: Three irreplaceable visual art values that are useful for the human cohabitation?
MZ: Diversity, sincerity and sensibility.

A nostro parere uno dei padiglioni nazionali più belli dell'ultima Biennale di Architettura qui a Venezia era quello belga, dal titolo Usus/Usures. Elegantemente abitato da materiali consumati, lisi, graffiati, scrostati (da chichessia) e raccolti, isolati, ripensati, dal collettivo Rotor. Con grande eleganza e sensibilità visiva suscitavano importanti considerazioni sul costruito, oltre che sul costruibile, prendendo sul serio le inevitabili trasformazioni delle superfici e le loro implicazioni estetiche, fisiche, situazionali. Il volume concomitante Etat des lieux presenta gli esiti delle loro ricerche in merito. Altro. / During the last Architecture Biennale here in Venice, directed this year by Kazuyo Sejima, one of the thing we liked most was the Belgian pavilion Usus/Usures. The charming and thorough exhibition focused on wear as a consequence of human use, the unpredictable decadence of materials, the inevitable re-shaping of already built places.
Looking at wear "as a material phenomenon and as an agent that can influence behaviour". The Rotor collective presented also an interesting publication: Etat des lieux. More.

Interamente dipinta a quattro mani, la nostra affiche si intitola "Mano-mettere", e vuole esprimere una concezione di teatro partecipato, attivo luogo di incontro tra culture, tradizioni, visioni del mondo. Grazie a tutti quelli che hanno partecipato al nostro Banchetto Alchemico del 9 luglio 2010 (e anche a quelli che 'volevano partecipare ma') ! Grazie ai musicisti, a chi ha fritto zucchine, appeso ghirlande, curato la pesca a premi, allestito il carrello dei gelati o vigilato sulla raccolta differenziata.

In occasione del finissage della mostra Food Design presso lo spazio Casa Cogollo-Vicenza, ecco alcune immagini delle nostre opere e delle scenografie realizzate per le teche (puoi gustarle qui). / We present some pictures of our works and the scenes we created for the display cases (you can enjoy them here) from the Food Design exhibition's finissage at Casa Cogollo-Vicenza.

Nella mostra organizzata dal comune di Vicenza e curata da Stefania Portinari lo Studio Fludd ha sfornato un panino da non addentare, i cubetti finalmente nutriti dai loro fruttini, bavaglini mimetici per bambini un po' selvaggi. / For the exhibition organized by the municipality of Vicenza and curated by Stefania Portinari, Studio Fludd created a not-to-be-biten sandwich, the cubes finally fed with their little fruits, and camouflaged bibs for wild children.

D) area d'azione / your sphere of interests: D: ecco, Blauer Hase non ne ha una in particolare. E questo permette una totale libertà di muoversi / D: Blauer Hase is not interested in something in particular and this enables to feel free.
E) studi / studies: D: Ci siamo incontrati all'interno dello IUAV di Venezia, studiando Arti Visive. Inizialmente suonavamo anche assieme, ci chiamavamo Blue Rabbit. Poi, continuando gli studi che si sono in parte separati, abbiamo desiderato questa nuova forma e questo nuovo modo di lavoro insieme. / D: We met at IUAV of Venice, both studying visual arts. At the very beginning we were also playing music together, we were “The Blue Rabbit”. Then during the university we started to desire to be part of a new form of working team.
F) qualcos'altro dal tuo curriculum / could you please tell us a little bit about what do you do/have you done?: D: Credo che le prime esperienze espositive che Blauer Hase ha avuto, siano state quelle per un certo senso definitive: "Hic sunt leones" e "Furniture Music" hanno avuto un ruolo fondamentale per la crescita del collettivo. Due situazioni opposte: la prima richiedeva degli interventi che si potessero camuffare con l'intero arredamento del palazzo di Cà Corniani degli Algarotti o dialogare con la stessa storia del palazzo, mentre la seconda situazione era l'inverso. L'appartamento che avevamo a disposizione era completamente spoglio, tranne che per le tracce di polvere dell'arredamento dei precedenti proprietari. Però anche "Rodeo", il progetto che ci ha permesso di lavorare all'interno degli atelier della Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa di Venezia per un anno, ritengo sia stato un punto molto interessante della nostra ricerca. Iniziare a riflettere sul meccanismo delle regole e dei limiti proponendo ad altri artisti/curatori/autori delle situazione espositive per poi concludere con il ricevere delle regole da tutti i partecipanti al progetto Rodeo: la conclusione infatti è stata molto interessante, nell'esposizione finale che ha avuto luogo a Viafarini (Milano), Blauer Hase si ritrovava così, in un'impossibilità di agire per la presenza di meta‐regole. È stato un momento per pensare a ciò che si può fare, a ciò che non si può fare e a ciò che si può fare non. È complicato, sì.. / D: the first experiences can be considered the most valuable ones: "Hic sunt leones" and "Furniture Music" have had a special role in the growth of our collective. These were two opposite cases: the first one was about the development of works that could disguise with the interior forniture of “Cà Corniani degli Algarotti”, whereas the second situation was just the reverse. That building was completely unfurnished except for the dust left from the previous owners. Also “Rodeo” has been an important project for our research and allowed us to work within Bevilacqua la Masa’s ateliers. Reflecting about rules and boundaries, about there presence or absence has been exciting and brought some intersting results to the final exposition in Viafarini (Milano).

The Latento is a good topic, right Rik?; R: The concept which Raqs Media Collective was talking about really impressed us, it was all about the contrapposition of “manifesto” and “latento”.
